With a name like that this had better be good. Or porn. Or at least good porn. Nope! Just more card tricks. Which I guess to a magician is as good as porn? I don’t know I don’t get out much. Don’t blame me, and put the pitch forks and torches away. I know it was a bad joke. Let’s talk about reviews because that’s what we’re all here to do anyways.
Arron Jones has come out with a commercialized version of his lecture he did at LAD’s (Lectures And Dealers) 2015. That is to say someone stuck a camera on a tripod, recorded his lecture, and then he released it thru World Magic Shop who may or may not in some way be directly connected to the convention. I’ve personally never heard of LAD’s before this DVD so you’ll have to forgive me if I’m a bit dodgy on the details. I digress. REVIEWS! This is a filmed lecture which means all the usual nice things we come to expect and love from commercially produced magic DVD’s aren’t here. The lighting is shyte, the pacing impromptu, the video quality sucks and is vastly different depending on which of the two camera’s you’re seeing the shot thru, and the lighting couldn’t be of a nuisance. But did I hate this video? No. And I’ll tell you why. The magic and the lecture content in this video is solid gold.
Everything from Arron’s handling , and frankly reboot, of Doc Eason’s Anniversary Waltz to his torn and restored business card is strait out of a working man’s’ arsenal. I personally loved his OXO which is a fun little game of Tic Tak Toe, or noughts and crosses as they’re apparently called in England, that ends with a hell of a bang. It’s got some fun comedic jokes, and a chance (as if) for the spectator to win some money. You play back and forth until the game is over, and then you reveal that written on the bill is not only the results of the game, but an exact copy of the final layout of the game. And it doesn’t end there. A calculator is brought out, and after some more randomly selected numbers, the number the spectator finishes up with on the calculator matches the serial number of the bill! This is the kind of shyte that starts religions.
All the magic in this DVD is not only practical but it will be tricks that you’ll want to use in your act. The majority of the routines covered are close up, with the exception of the Tic Tak Toe prediction game being possible for stage if you found a way to make the game large enough for the audience to follow along with. Arron’s card to pocket bit is also insanely valuable because it teaches you a technique to add any card covertly into a spectator’s pocket. Fans of the impossible location plot will get some solid play out of this one. Every single piece on this DVD is a worker.
So you end with a great lecture, full of very useful magic routines that you’re going to use- why? Because they work and pack a hell of a punch, and all of this was compacted into a nice little DVD and delivered with a British accent. I have no idea why the accent was important to mention, but there you go. I loved this DVD. Hated the lighting, and drew issues with a few other technical problems, but dear god is the magic great. Check it out today! You won’t be sorry you did.
